Overview
Andrea Strain, Of Counsel, focuses her practice primarily on labor and employment law, with additional expertise in general liability defense, corporate contracts, and housing law. With over a decade of experience, Ms. Strain has successfully represented a diverse range of clients before state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings throughout New York and Connecticut.
In her employment defense practice, Ms. Strain represents management and insurance carriers in a wide array of matters, including wage and hour disputes; class and collective actions; discrimination and harassment claims; retaliation and wrongful termination cases; Fair Housing Act claims; and business immigration matters, assisting employers with visa applications and compliance.
Ms. Strain provides comprehensive counsel to employers on employment agreements, handbooks, policies, and procedures. She also defends clients before various administrative agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New York State Division of Human Rights, and the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
Her general liability practice involves representing insurance carriers and their insureds in claims arising from trucking and motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, bodily injury, and other types of alleged dangerous or hazardous conditions. This diverse experience in handling complex liability cases further enhances Ms. Strain’s ability to navigate a wide range of legal challenges for her clients.
Ms. Strain’s expertise extends to corporate law, where she has significant experience drafting and negotiating operating agreements, and various other types of contracts. Additionally, she has developed a strong background in housing law, particularly in matters related to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Connecticut. This expertise was initially cultivated during her summer internship at New Haven Legal Aid before her second year of law school, where she gained valuable hands-on experience with housing issues and HUD regulations.
Prior to joining Kaufman Dolowich, Ms. Strain honed her skills at three law firms, handling complex employment law matters, premises liability cases, intricate business and immigration issues, personal injury claims, and regulatory and transactional matters. This diverse background allows her to bring a holistic approach to her clients’ legal challenges.
Ms. Strain is fluent in Spanish, enhancing her ability to serve a diverse clientele and navigate complex cross-cultural legal matters.
