Overview
Partner Paul Daugherity concentrates his practice in general liability defense, labor and employment law, and professional liability.
He handles cases involving products liability, construction, premises liability, medical malpractice, and professional liability for accountants, insurance brokers, architects, and real estate agents. Mr. Daugherity defends clients in cases of misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, and in defense of employment matters before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), Cook County Commission on Human Rights, Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), Department of Labor, and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
He represents real estate agencies in alleged breach of contract and fiduciary duty matters and in matters of alleged discrimination claims before the Illinois Department of Human Rights. Mr. Daugherity also represents accountants in cases alleging professional negligence and breach of fiduciary duties. He has experience advising on non-compete/non-solicitation agreements, severance agreements, employee policies and handbooks, and reductions in force. Mr. Daugherity also has experience defending directors and officers in claims involving alleged breach of fiduciary duty by investors.
In his product liability work, Mr. Daugherity has handled numerous cases defending manufacturers. Most recently, he provides counsel and defense litigation for insureds in matters involving employee accidents with heavy duty industrial machinery, third-party contribution actions, and Illinois workers’ compensation cap issues. Mr. Daugherity’s work has included litigation in serious bodily injury and wrongful death claims involving alleged design and manufacturing defects. He has represented manufacturers of industrial machinery; construction equipment; heavy-duty mobile equipment; construction scissor lifts; train cranes; specialty trucking vehicles; and airport fire suppression vehicles.
Mr. Daugherity has extensive and varied litigation experience, including 1st & 2nd Chair jury trials and binding arbitrations, in multiple Federal courts, multiple administrative agencies, and throughout the state of Illinois. He has worked with a diverse group of clients, from individuals to Fortune 500 companies, focusing on the client’s needs and moving the matter to the best possible resolution.
