Joseph Staph

Overview

Joseph B. Staph concentrates his practice in maritime and transportation law, defending clients and providing counsel in complex disputes.

In state and federal courts, he represents cargo interests, logistics providers, and insurers on all sides of complex marine, air, trucking, and rail cargo claims, as well as intricate coverage issues. Complimenting this practice, he routinely pursues recovery actions on behalf of subrogated cargo underwriters from the London and U.S. markets. Additionally, Mr. Staph provides defends various maritime interests against a variety of claims brought under general maritime and admiralty law.

Mr. Staph has extensive experience handling all phases of litigation, from initial claim intake through trial, including settlement negotiations. He has also been admitted pro hac vice in various state and federal courts throughout the country.

Prior to joining Kaufman Dolowich, Mr. Staph worked at a national maritime and transportation law firm, where he handled marine, air, trucking and rail cargo liability claims. His prior experience also includes practicing at a global law firm, where he handled complex insurance coverage matters, and at a regional boutique law firm specializing in maritime and admiralty law.
