Passengers injured in the Jan. 9, 2013, crash of the SeaStreak Wall Street commuter ferry have gotten some good news from the federal judge in Newark handling their claims.

U.S. District Judge William Martini refused to disqualify law firms who represent multiple claimants in a suit by the vessel’s owner to limit liability to its $7.6 million appraised value.

At the same time, Martini denied the owner’s motion to strike the “flotilla doctrine”—which would expand the limitation fund to include three other ferries.
