Now that New York City is getting a mandatory paid-sick leave law, the debate over what it means — and whether it is good or bad — is in full swing.
Small businesses worry the law will cause them to lose money or worse, but the New York Times says those fears are overblown, citing the experience of San Francisco, which has had a similar law since 2007. And the Washington Post, poking its D.C. nose into Big Apple’s business, also praises the sick-leave benefit, arguing among other things that it is good for consumers because they no longer will risk being infected by sick food workers who should be home in bed but can’t afford to be.
