Overview
Sofia Maristela focuses her law practice in employment law and general liability.
Ms. Maristela represents companies and non-profit organizations in a broad range of employment-related matters. Her practice includes the defense of management in employment litigation, including claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour disputes, and matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the New York State Division of Human Rights (NYS-DHR). She also advises clients on internal investigations, compliance strategies, and risk mitigation.
In addition Ms. Maristela counsels employers on immigration compliance and employee visa matters, with particular experience in H-1B Specialty Occupation petitions before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. She also has experience handling social engineering fraud claims and performing coverage analysis for insurance carrier clients.
While in law school, Ms. Maristela served as a law clerk and coordinator for a non-profit legal clinic, where she assisted low-income clients with a variety of legal matters.
Ms. Maristela is fluent in Tagalog.
