Overview
Edward Grimmett focuses his practice in employment and labor law. He represents businesses in a wide range of industries, including restaurants, construction companies, educational institutions, professional service providers, and retail establishments.
Mr. Grimmett defends and counsels management on employment-related issues, such as workplace discrimination and sexual harassment claims, complex wage and hour lawsuits brought as class and collective actions, and claims alleging unfair labor practices in violation of the National Labor Relations Act. Mr. Grimmett works closely with clients to prevent employment-related litigation. This work includes counseling clients on evolving employment statutes, leave and accommodation requests, and responding to employee grievances. Additionally, Mr. Grimmett drafts employee handbooks, company policies, and employment contracts.
In defending businesses, Mr. Grimmett has successfully resolved matters in federal and state court, before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the New York State Division of Human Rights (NYSDHR), the New York City Commission on Human Rights, and the New York and United States Departments of Labor (DOL).
Prior to joining Kaufman Dolowich, Mr. Grimmett provided general and labor counsel to public school districts, public libraries, and municipal entities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he advised clients on the rapid changes to the law and counseled school districts while they were returning staff and students to in-person operations.
During law school, Mr. Grimmett was a member of the school’s law review where he published an article related to the name, image, and likeness rights of student-athletes. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University and is a huge fan of the basketball program.
