Kaufman Dolowich San Francisco Partner Kartikey Pradhan was quoted in a recent Recorder article about lawsuits pending in a California state court alleging that workers who train large language models and other artificial intelligence systems were misclassified as independent contractors, weighing in on the potential for increased employment litigation involving the “hidden workforce” behind AI development.

Mr. Pradhan in the article noted: “I would think that these sort of lawsuits will gain traction in the near future in California, [given] that there [are] all these AI startups that are using people to develop their software and generate content. And many of them are probably using some sort of independent-contractor type models to, basically, cut costs.”
