Spurred by the flurry of high profile data breaches, the Obama administration recently renewed its efforts at passing cybersecurity legislation. The administration is working on several topics: breach notification, data security, national security, and regulation on “big data.”

But there is tension in the administration’s message. In a Feb. 13 interview with CNBC’s “Re/code,” President Barack Obama criticized European attacks on U.S.based companies such as Google as economic protectionism…
