Posted Mar 31, 2026

Chicago (March 31, 2026) — Kaufman Dolowich, a leading national law firm, announced today that three partners, Jason P. Minkin, Jonathan R. Walton, and Le G. Trieu, have joined the firm’s Chicago office from Chicago-based firm BatesCarey LLP.  Associate Doris Cikopana is also joining with her colleagues April 10.

Enhancing Kaufman Dolowich’s national insurance coverage capabilities and further strengthening the firm’s presence in Chicago, the team brings deep experience representing insurers and reinsurers across a wide range of product lines, including healthcare, professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, errors and omissions, casualty, marine, admiralty, commercial crime, and fidelity bonds.

Minkin brings more than 20 years of experience representing insurers and reinsurers across diverse product lines, including healthcare, management and professional liability, casualty, and marine insurance. Walton represents insurers and reinsurers in coverage and litigation matters spanning healthcare and professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, admiralty, commercial crime, and fidelity bonds, executing effective solutions to complex coverage challenges. Trieu counsels clients in insurance and reinsurance coverage matters, including healthcare, management and professional liability, and casualty, providing results-oriented guidance on novel and complex issues.

“We know the strength this team brings to the table by witnessing it firsthand, as we have shared clients with them throughout the years,” said Kaufman Dolowich Chicago Co-Managing Partner David Brown. “Their depth of experience, industry knowledge, as well as their professionalism with clients and opposing counsel are key qualities that affirm for us, they are a great fit for our firm, and our platform will allow them to grow their practice, as well.”

“When we opened our Chicago office nearly 12 years ago, we set out to build a premier practice through organic growth and strong client relationships,” said Partner Stefan Dandelles, who started the firm’s Chicago office alongside Chicago Office Managing Partners Brown and Brendan McGarry. “Growing from three lawyers to 19 is validating and incredibly rewarding. It speaks to the strength of our platform, our culture and the environment we have built in Chicago.”

“Many factors led us to Kaufman Dolowich,” said Minkin, “but what stood out most was the opportunity to align with a firm and leadership team that are operating at an exceptional level. From our early conversations, it was clear that Kaufman Dolowich is home to an outstanding group of lawyers and genuinely great people. The firm’s reputation in the market, combined with the ability to seamlessly collaborate across offices and serve clients nationally, made this a compelling next step for us.”

Walton continued, “As a group, we have worked closely together for many years developing deep experience across multiple insurance product lines and building strong client relationships. Joining Kaufman Dolowich allows us to build on that foundation within a national platform that supports continued growth, both for our clients and our practice.”

Minkin, Walton and Trieu have spent their entire legal careers practicing in Chicago; each brings more than 15 years of experience advising clients in complex insurance matters. Minkin received his LL.M. in Admiralty from Tulane Law School, his J.D. from DePaul College of Law, and his B.A. from the University of Minnesota. Walton received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law, and his B.A. from the University of Illinois. Trieu received her LL.M. in Taxation, and J.D., from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, and her B.A. from the University of California – Los Angeles. Cikopana received her J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago, and her B.A. from Emory University.

“Beyond the business benefits, we are excited to welcome such talented and collegial professionals to our office,” added McGarry. “They are exceptional lawyers and wonderful people, and we look forward to building on our shared success together.”
