The New Year brought new collective bargaining rules for contractors and subcontractors working on large-scale federal construction projects. Under an executive order effective Jan. 22, federal contractors and subcontractors must now negotiate pre-hire collective bargaining agreements with unions to work on federally funded construction projects valued at $35-million or more, unless granted an exception. Erik Ortmann, partner and co-chair of the Construction Practice Group at Kaufman Dolowich, addresses key provisions of the rule in an insightful Q & A appearing in the Construction Broadsheet.
