American Bar Association Appoints Kaufman Dolowich Partner Karol Corbin Walker Chair of its Commission on Women in the Profession, 10-2-2023

Hackensack, NJ – (Oct. 2, 2023) –Kaufman Dolowich LLP is pleased to announce that Karol Corbin Walker, a partner in the firm’s Hackensack, New Jersey office, was appointed Chair of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession during the organization’s annual meeting in Denver. Effective August 8th, Karol is the second African American woman to hold this post and is eligible to serve for three years.

Founded in August 1987, the mission of the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession is to secure full and equal participation of women in the ABA, the profession and the justice system. Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was the first Chair of the Commission. “The ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession is a pivotal organization whose purpose is to reduce barriers for women in the legal profession,” said Walker. “I’m truly honored to be appointed the next Chair. During my tenure as Chair of the commission, I hope to increase awareness of the Commission’s activities related to the legal community at large and ensure that all are aware of the wealth of resources it makes available.” 

Notably, the Commission also aims to release two research studies this coming year with associated programming; one on the impact of child caregiving on the careers of lawyers (especially its impact on women lawyers), and the other looks at the experiences of Native American women attorneys and how they differ generationally. Walker also anticipates that the Commission will look at mental wellness for women in law and reach out to additional attorneys in the in-house legal space, inviting them to become more involved in Commission work. 

Walker focuses her law practice on commercial litigation, business and transactional litigation, labor and employment, toxic tort and product liability matters. Her clients have included many Fortune 500 corporations, publicly and privately held corporations, financial institutions, entertainers and insurance companies. Walker has been the first woman or first woman color to lead many legal organizations, including Chair of New Jersey’s delegation of the American Bar Association’s Nominating Committee of its House of Delegates, the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, and President of the National Conference of Bar Presidents.
