Overview

Manuel “Manny” Diaz is a litigation and trial attorney, focusing on the defense of civil lawsuits across several practice areas. Mr. Diaz’s general liability and commercial liability practices include defense litigation of personal injury and premises liability matters, arising from allegedly hazardous physical conditions and exposure to toxic substances. Mr. Diaz’s general liability defense work includes motor vehicle defense in accident claims involving bodily injury and has tried such cases from inception to verdict.

He also represents property owners, contractors, subcontractors, and other parties in defending claims of water, storm, mold, plumbing, and foundation damages, as well as claims of business interruption and property value losses. Mr. Diaz often represents insurers in investigating and evaluating claims to determine causation, injuries, and potential damages.

In his transportation and maritime law work, Mr. Diaz represents parties in several matters including trucking and terminal accidents, as well as claims brought pursuant to general maritime law, the Jones Act, and the Longshore Act. Additionally, he represents clients in matters of professional liability and employment law. He defends professionals, including, but not limited to attorneys and insurance producers, and handles employer defense litigation.

Prior to joining Kaufman Dolowich, Mr. Diaz acted as trial counsel for a Fortune 50 insurance company for several years, successfully trying several cases to verdict. Early in his career, he clerked in the Civil Division of Essex County, New Jersey, for the Honorable Annette Scoca, J.S.C. During law school, Mr. Diaz was an Associate Editor of the Rutgers Computer & Technology Law Journal and a Merit Scholarship awardee. Involved with public service, he helped build a home in the Dominican Republic as a volunteer and also served as vice-president of the Minority Student Program of the Association of Latin American Law Students.
